We are excited to be offering this new series of plant medicine events at Ivywood. This series of 4 full days are spaced out over our seasons. During these days we will be spending time in the woodland with the trees and plants there and also out in the apothecary garden and other spaces of Ivywood. We will be engaging in hands on harvesting of roots, tree barks, whole plants, berries, mushrooms or lichen to create medicines together in circle.
To venture into the woodland here is to feel a deeper sense of the magical energy that Ivywood holds. This is an invitation to connect in with the abundance of wild medicine that the land here so graciously offers us for healing.
We will embark on conscious harvesting with each of the native trees and plants as we work with them. We then will engage in our medicine making in circle back in our beautiful apothecary space or in the woodland itself.
These events are suitable for both herb lovers and qualified herbalists wishing to deepen their connection with the medicine of our ancestry and work practically with these wild plants by creating medicine making in circle. These events offer us the opportunity to create new stories of plant and land connection, and traditional skills for our lineage.
We will cover the ins and outs of creating a variety rich and vibrant medicines with freshly harvested native medicinal plants, roots, barks, berries, fungi and lichen from Ivywood.
You will be taking home your 2 freshly harvested medicines created in community from each day.
An Geimhreadh ~ Wintertime ~ Scrophularia & Viburnum Medicine – From Hands in the Cold Wet Earth to Bare Branches of Crips Skies
Scrophularia, Figwort, Donnlús holds potent medicine for us for the year ahead. We will be working with the root of this traditional native Irish medicine by connecting with the cold and wet of the soil to unearth its spectacular root ball. Back in the apothecary we will then process this root in circle while learning of its healing attributes. We will then create a fresh root oil.
Viburnum, Guelder Rose, Caor Chon is one of our most interesting native tree medicines. This often forgotten traditional medicine’s healing properties are ten fold. We will experience its generous nature during winter through bark harvesting and medicine making. We’ll be tasting this fresh medicine in the woodland, harvesting together in reciprocity with the tree and returning to the apothecary to create our medicines.
Please note: these events are partially outdoors in all weather in a woodland terrain.
This course includes a delicious hearty vegan lunch and teas/coffees and snacks on breaks.
Our medicinal plant nursery is open with plants to purchase during courses ran between May & October at Ivywood.
Please note this course is for over 16's. Children may NOT accompany course attendees.
