Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us at Ivywood. We get a lot of inquiries from people wishing to volunteer. Please take a read of the details below for more information.
Our medicinal herb nursery Ivywood Botanicals is mostly an online business where we bareroot the plants and carefully pack them to ship to customers overnight around Ireland and abroad. We grow over 200 species of medicinal plants.
Volunteer work in the herb nursery is:
- Potting on seedlings and plants
- Watering potted plants
- Weeding herb beds
- Possibly some herb harvesting for drying
What you will learn:
- Identification of medicinal plants
- Growing of specific medicinal plants
- Some information on medicinal uses of plants

Please note volunteers at the herb nursery will not be making herbal remedies or learning in depth about herbal medicine treatment of conditions. You will always be given clear instruction but may at times be working alone/ with other volunteers. We will be taking nursery volunteers from Spring 2021.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer accommodation for volunteers. We ask volunteers to please bring a packed lunch.
Ivywood Woodland
We have 40 acres of mixed woodland that we manage. We are currently using timbers for our own roundhouse build. We are always happy to share our knowledge of how we manage our woodland.
Volunteer work in the woodland is:
- Coppicing
- Thinning
- Creating woodland pathways
- Restoring woodland drains
- Planting
- Replanting self-seeded saplings
