Herbalists Ross Hennessy and Marina Kesso have moved their businesses and family to a new piece of land in Co Clare. They are busy creating new spaces on the land to reestablish their clinical practice and medicinal herb nursery. Formerly Bareroot Botanicals and Iona Herbal they have now renamed the woodland and business Ivywood.

With this very mild winter the cutting back of the herbs has been drawn out to the beginning of Spring! We still have plants to cut back and are hoping for a hard frost and some snow sometime over the next month to reset everything before we are plunged into the next growing season. Here’s a video made from the garden mid December on cutting back Ballota nigra (Black Horehound) and Nepeta cataria (Catnip).

The amazing Hydrastis canadensis ~ Goldenseal lushing up after its flowering time. It is doing well this growing season despite a very rainy May. Goldenseal is unfortunately not readily available to herbalists which is one of the reasons we are focusing on cultivating it here in Ireland.
