A one-day practical course all about healing trees and shrubs. This course will be led by Anne Stobart, medical herbalist and permaculture design specialist in medicinal forest gardening. During the course there will be a focus on using perennial and woody plants suited to garden sites or woodland growing. Anne will provide the inside story on her experience in transforming a redundant conifer plantation into a thriving medicinal forest garden. She will discuss practical details of harvesting and the health-promoting recipes that can be made from a range of tree and shrub species.

Anne Stobart is a medical herbalist, grower, researcher and writer living in Devon, UK. She previously directed professional herbal practitioner training at Middlesex University in London. Her research in early modern recipes was published as Household Medicine in Seventeenth-Century England (Bloomsbury, 2016). Based on permaculture design principles, she established Holt Wood, a medicinal woodland in North Devon, transforming a redundant conifer plantation. Further publications include The Medicinal Forest Garden Handbook (Permanent Publications, 2020) and Trees and Shrubs That Heal (Permanent Publications, 2023). Anne has established the Medicinal Forest Garden Trust to promote sustainable cultivation of medicinal trees and shrubs and offers online courses.

This course includes a deliciously health vegetarian lunch and teas/coffees and snacks on breaks.
Our medicinal plant nursery is open with plants to purchase during courses ran between May & October at Ivywood.
Course attendees are welcome to avail of short walks in the Ivywood woodland during lunch and tea breaks.
Please note this course is for over 16's. We CANNOT accommodate children accompanying course attendees. Breastfeeding babies are of course welcome.
