Growing medicinal and plants (MAPs) for market presents a unique and very rewarding opportunity for farmers. These plants, valued for their therapeutic properties and fragrant oils, are in increasing demand across various industries, from pharmaceuticals and cosmetics to culinary and aromatherapy. Successful commercial cultivation requires careful planning, including selecting appropriate species suited to local climate and soil conditions, implementing regenerative and organic practices, and establishing reliable market connections. Understanding the specific requirements of each plant, such as optimal sunlight, nutrient and water is crucial for maximizing yield and quality, ultimately ensuring profitability.
Ross and Marina have grown medicinal crops commercially at their old herb farm in Co. Sligo to process into tinctures and teas. With over 15 years of experience, we now grow to supply our own busy clinic with teas, tinctures, oils and glycerines.
During the day Ross will cover these topics and more, including time for conversation around the Irish co-op of MAP growers.
You will take home
• Comprehensive notes
• Confidence to grow a range of medicinal crops in the Irish climate
