The beautiful Filipendula ulmaria (Meadowsweet) has been flowering for the last number of weeks around the country and will continue over the Summer – in some parts of Ireland you still find it flowering well into Autumn! I was out harvesting Filipendula recently for making medicines and wished to share with you
Many people will recognise this wild plant – Rosebay Willowherb (Epilobium angustifolium). It is a lesser used but wonderful traditional medicine in many countries across the globe.
Here in Ireland you can find 9 different Epilobium’s growing wild. Some are native and others introduced. Rosebay Willowherb is considered native.
As the growing season continues so does the weekly herb drying, tincture making, glycerite making and hydrosol and hot infused oil making from the plants.
This week I was infusing Ruta graveolens (Rue) leaf and flower and also Plantago lanceolata (Plantain) leaves.
This gorgeous plant is Angelica dahurica - Bai Zhi, a well-known Chinese medicinal plant we love to grow.
We grow 3 different Angelica’s here for medicines; Angelica archangelica – the European version; Angelica sinensis – Chinese angelica and this one - Angelica dahurica. Just to note, in Ireland we do have a native Angelica.
